iOS 18.1: Using This New Feature to Record Phone Calls on Your iPhone

More than a month after the tech giant’s October release of iOS 18.1, Apple launched iOS 18.2 on December 11. While iOS 18.1 added call recording to the iPhone’s Phone app, the most recent version delivered several Apple Intelligence capabilities, such as Genmoji and Image Playground, to select iPhones.

People who use iPhones for professional or commercial purposes, or who want to remember directions they’ve been given over the phone, may find this function useful. You may listen to the call or view the transcript once it has been recorded and stored to your phone.

Here’s how to record a call on iOS 18.1 and see the call’s transcript afterwards. Check your local regulations regarding call recording before you start recording calls. Many states are one-party consent states, meaning that only one person must agree to a phone conversation being recorded, according to the legal information website Justia. In many areas, such as California, recording a call without both parties’ permission is prohibited.

It’s very simple to record a call on your iPhone. Once you’re on a call, touch the recording button and the icon that resembles a sound bar in the left-hand corner of your screen.

When you press that button, an automated voice will say, “This call will be recorded,” followed by a tone, and you and the person on the other end of the line will hear a three-second countdown.

By hanging up or hitting the Stop button on your screen, you may end the call recording at any moment. Upon pressing the Stop button, the previously recorded automated voice will resound, “This call is no longer being recorded.” After then, you may go on talking without recording it.

Where can I locate iPhone call recordings?

You can locate the call recording in your Notes app once you’ve made one. You may change the name of the note just as you would any other note in the app, but it will be stored as “Call Recording” in the app.

Tap the note and then the Play button to start listening to the recording. Like any other music or podcast, you may fast-forward or rewind the recording.

To see the transcript, choose Transcript under the Play button. The transcript will fill your screen. To add a copy of the transcript to the recording’s note, press the three dots (…) in the upper right corner and then choose Add Transcript to Note. This enables you to simultaneously listen to the audio and browse the text. Although it may be glitchy and sometimes the transcript vanishes before resurfacing a moment later, you can read the transcript on the Transcript page while listening to the audio.

You may search for what you’re searching for by scrolling through the transcript once it’s in the note. To save time, you can also search for a certain term in the transcript by tapping the three dots (…) in the upper right corner and then tapping Find in Note.
